01

LOLER Thorough Examination

Relevant lifting equipment and accessories used to lift people are normally subject to a thorough examination at least every six months, unless a competent person has set another interval in a written scheme of examination.

02

PUWER Inspection & Equipment Safety

PUWER applies more widely to work equipment used by employees, helping ensure equipment is suitable, maintained in a safe condition and inspected where necessary.

03

Asset Tagging & Equipment Register

We can individually tag equipment and maintain an inventory record, making assets easier to identify, report and plan around.

04

Certificates & Clear Records

Inspection outcomes and certification are kept organised so your team has a clearer audit trail and easier access to compliance records.

05

Proactive Scheduling

Our service system prompts our team to contact you ahead of planned inspection dates, helping recurring LOLER visits stay on track.

Important: a LOLER thorough examination is not a substitute for routine servicing or preventative maintenance. Compliance inspections, servicing and repairs should be managed as connected but distinct parts of the same equipment plan.

“Great customer service from Jemma. The engineer James has been amazing; communication about what has been going on and the issues have been fully explained throughout. Perseverance has been the word for this job, but I am so happy we got there. James deserves a star for the challenges he faced with the bath we inherited here. Thank you!”

Equipment Servicing FAQs

Common Questions About LOLER, PUWER & Equipment Servicing

Straightforward answers to common questions about care-equipment compliance, servicing and repairs.

LOLER specifically covers lifting equipment and lifting operations, including requirements for thorough examination by a competent person. PUWER applies more broadly to work equipment and requires it to be suitable, maintained in a safe condition and inspected where necessary.

In many care settings both regulations apply to the same equipment, but they cover different responsibilities.

No. A LOLER thorough examination assesses whether relevant lifting equipment remains safe for continued use. Routine servicing and preventative maintenance are separate requirements and help keep equipment working correctly between examinations.

A thorough examination should not be treated as a replacement for regular maintenance.

Yes. Slings used for lifting people are lifting accessories and are normally thoroughly examined at least every six months, unless another interval has been specified within an appropriate written examination scheme.

The examination report will identify defects and any action required. Where necessary, Able can also help with repair recommendations, replacement parts and follow-on engineering support.

Where a defect presents an existing or imminent risk of serious personal injury, LOLER places additional reporting duties on the competent person carrying out the examination.

Yes. Our engineers support equipment from a wide range of healthcare manufacturers, including brands not shown on this page. Send us the make, model and any available asset or serial information and we can confirm the support available.

Yes. Able supports both planned maintenance and reactive equipment repairs. If a fault develops, we can help with diagnosis, replacement parts, repair recommendations and follow-on engineering support.

For planned maintenance, we can also help organise servicing alongside your wider LOLER, PUWER and equipment-management programme.

Whether you need to arrange LOLER testing, review your servicing schedule, discuss a repair or get advice on your equipment, send us a few details and our equipment team will come back to you.
